Every time I hit the ‘publish’ button which sends my newsletter to your inbox, I am filled with anticipation and glee. It is just the same feeling I experience when on my way to meet a loved one or close friend that I have sorely missed. I am usually bursting, with updates to share and eager to find out what exciting or scandalous things they have been up. For such a shy and trembly little girl I have grown to really love people, being around people and enjoying our shared interests. Like we do here when we cook together or natter away in the comments section.
Why are we here?
In the middle of the pandemic, my thirst for adventure, stories and yearning to connect with my community who love food, propelled me to start this newsletter. Many of you, I have met on this journey and many others have found their way here. I will like to believe that we are here for a reason. While I love food from across the world and I do share that here with you in many recipes, I have also been working hard to make sure African food gets a seat at the table, your table.
This journey has often felt lonely, but when you attend our feasts, join me in cookery classes, read the newsletters, and leave your comments, when you cook my recipes, I am reminded that I am not alone. You are with me. My biggest milestone to date is writing my first cookbook, Africana published by HarperCollins, one of the biggest publishers in the world. I hope this book will make a big impact, bringing the foods of this wonderful continent to a wider audience, celebrating an important cuisine with influence that is far-reaching beyond what many of us realise.
What can you expect?
My biggest priority is to give you value for your time and support, so we are shaking things up here with dedicated newsletters and some new fabulous perks for our paid members.
